Midford Station & signal box
Midford Station & signal box
Midford was the first station from Bath on the Somerset & Dorset Railway. I'm standing at the start of the viaduct and just behind me is the point at which the single track became double for the climb over the Mendips. Everything looks tidy and in order, but this is deceptive - the railway had closed almost 3 months previously and only demolition trains will now pass this way.

The flat-roofed signal box is unusual; it dates from a rebuilding of 1936 when a runaway train partly demolished the original.
