Is this a Dogger?
Is this a Dogger?
`In the 19th century Hengistbury Head was quarried for iron ore which occurred as large boulders known as Doggers. The process resulted in the destruction of up to a third of the headland.
The soft sandstone cliff is still eroding and here is what looks like one of those boulders which has fallen onto the beach amongst the rocks imported from elsewhere for protection.
For more on the quarrying see SZ1790 : Quarry Pond, Hengistbury Head
