The central block with Ionic columns and caryatids was designed by Sir John Soane. The block on the left is the extension to a previous house; it was designed by George Dance. Beyond is the new gallery.
Pitzhanger Manor, Ealing
Pitzhanger Manor was built as his country house by the architect Sir John Soane in 1800, partly as a showcase for his collections and also to show off architectural possibilities to clients. George Dance designed an extension in 1768, Soane worked on this as a 15 year old apprentice. In 1900 it was sold to Ealing Council and used as the public library until 1984, then as a museum. The grounds became the public Walpole Park. From 2011 there was a major restoration of the park and manor; the library extension on the site of the kitchen was replaced by a gallery.
