Originally built in the 1770s - see Cadw listing LinkExternal link - in 1819 it was the Bangor Ferry Inn which was greatly enlarged to become the George Hotel. It was taken over by the Normal College in 1919 to accommodate male students and converted by R Lloyd Jones at a cost of £10,000. Y Coleg Normal was an independent teacher training college. In 1996 the college became part of University of Wales Bangor. It is now Bangor University's Sports Science block.
