TQ2775 : Clapham Junction 'A' Signal Box

taken 57 years ago, near to Battersea, Wandsworth, England

Clapham Junction 'A' Signal Box
Clapham Junction 'A' Signal Box
Rebuilt Battle of Britain 34052 'Lord Dowding' (built Brighton 12/46, withdrawn 7/67) approaches on the 11.30am to Bournemouth. The scene is dominated by the well-known Clapham Junction 'A' signal box. The strange 'skeleton' around the box is the framework of a structure erected during the war - presumably as black-out precautions. The sheeting that it supported lasted for a further 20 years as this 1964 photo shows: TQ2775 : Down milk empties at Clapham Junction (Windsor Lines).
