Drum Park, Lower Largo
Drum Park, Lower Largo
This part of Drum Park was previously the slipway down to the sea next to the former salt girnel ('girnel' or 'girnal' is an old Scots word for a storage area for perishables). At one time salt (and other commodities) from Lower Largo were shipped to Dundee, Perth and the Netherlands and this would have been a very busy place. It still gives access to the beach but only for the nimble since a steep rocky slab must be negotiated! This is also the location of the footpath past The Net House which is the low building in the middle of the frame NO4102 : Path past The Net House, Lower Largo
