Overhead Crane at Preston Marina
Overhead Crane at Preston Marina
Originally opened in 1892 by HRH Prince Albert, Duke of Edinburgh, the second son of Queen Victoria, the Albert Edward Dock was once a busy ferry port, part of the Port of Preston which closed in 1981. It has since been redeveloped as a multi-use estate including the marina, a retail park, and office buildings.

The overhead crane specifically constructed in 1958 to lift the 100-tonne lock gates is now only used for the occasional boat lift. It serves as a stark reminder of the estate’s industrial heritage.
