The American B-26 Invader came down at Avon Head below Distinkhorn on 13th August 1956. Sadly the two pilots were killed. Edgar Joseph Flanagan (38) from Collingswood, NJ and Wayne Archer Taylor (32) from Lamissa, CA.

At the time of the accident, B-26 Invader 8811-B was on a ferry flight from the USA via Reykjavik and Prestwick to France. The aircraft was intended for use by the French Air Force.
