Ribble Motor Services was established in June 1919 and by the 1950s grew to be the largest operator in the region by the 1950s, with a territory stretching from Carlisle in Cumberland to southern Lancashire. Following nationalisation in 1969, Ribble became part of the National Bus Group which was later broken up when bus services were deregulated in 1986 and has been succeeded by Stagecoach, Arriva Transdev. To mark Ribble’s centenary, each of these companies has repainted one or more of its modern buses into heritage Ribble colours. Five of these buses were displayed on the promenade during the “Morecambe Vintage Bus Day 2019” organised by the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust.

At the front of the line-up, Transdev ex-Coastliner repainted into an interpretation of how the Ribble livery might have looked after 100 years. It has also been renumbered “100” and re-registered as R100 TDV to mark the centenary. Next in line is Stagecoach 15566 (PX69 CUJ) repainted into the post regulation express “Timesaver” livery. Behind this, Stagecoach 10030 ( PX12 DNU) carries the short-lived deregulation livery from the 1980s. Arriva North West Alexander Dennis Enviro400 CX58 FZZ fleet number of 4411 carries NBC livery and, at the rear, Arriva North West’s Wright Commander 2596 (CX06 BJY) has been repainted into the famous pre-nationalisation Ribble cherry red livery.
