The Woodhead tunnel portals
New 400,000V cables have been installed in the 1950s tunnel on the right to replace the cables in the 19C tunnels, which at 50 years old were near the end of their planned life. The old tunnels have been sealed. The railway route from Manchester to Sheffield is now via the Hope Valley.
