TM4557 : Curving wall in the gardens of the Red House

taken 5 years ago, near to Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England

Curving wall in the gardens of the Red House
Curving wall in the gardens of the Red House
This curving wall divides two sections of garden at the home shared by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears. It was built in the early 1960s using bricks from the bridge over the Alde at Snape Maltings, which was rebuilt at that time (the Victorian bridge was incapable of carrying the weight of expected construction traffic for the Sizewell nuclear power station).
The "new" bridge at Snape can be seen in TM3957 : Snape Bridge and the Maltings quayside.
