The sign, in the style usual before the mid-1960s, has been mounted on new posts and is accompanied by a National Cycle Network route indicator. The B970 provides a quiet alternative for walkers and cyclists to the busy A9 which runs roughly parallel between Aviemore and Kingussie.

The locality Balnespick (Baile an Easbuig) denotes "the bishop's township".
