Black Lair
Black Lair
A large, dark mass of rock, particularly prominent at low water, located not far out from the shore, just to the west of the area where the River Leven empties into the Clyde. It measures about 70m (E-W) by 40m (N-S). For a similar local use of "lair", see the discussion at — Link — on the old place-names Big Lair/Layer and Little Lair/Layer, which referred to features in the south-east bay at Ardmore Point.
