The junction of the Erewash and Derby Canals
The Erewash Canal opened in 1779, to transport coal from local mines. Other canals were built off it - the Cromford Canal opened in 1794, the Nutbrook Canal in 1795 and the Derby Canal in 1796. The Nottingham Canal also opened off the Cromford Canal in 1796. The Derby Canal was never nationalised and was abandoned in 1964.
