Oxford Canal: Marsh Footbridge Number 163
Oxford Canal: Marsh Footbridge Number 163
For most of its life this has been a farmers' accommodation swing bridge, one of many on this canal. When the canal was built, and throughout the 19th century, the land on either side of the canal here was in agricultural use. Reviewing old large scale Ordnance Survey maps available online, it was shown as a swing bridge up to and including the edition of 1965, and only afterwards as a footbridge.
