Samson and Goliath
Samson and Goliath
These two massive gantry cranes dominate the skyline of Belfast and are scheduled as Historic Monuments. Samson (to the left) was constructed in 1974 and stands 106 metres high, Goliath was constructed in 1969 and stands 96 metres high. They are both 140 metres long and together can lift a load of 1600 tonnes. They are maintained in working order and are still used by Harland and Wolff in the course of business.
