Ty Newydd (the New House)
Ty Newydd (the New House)
Nowt but a tumble of low walls, this was most likely the home of a miner who worked at Glog Fach/Fawr Mine but is now just a ruin. The last of the mines here shut in 1920, so it's had 100 yrs to fall apart.
Cottages for miners were often very small and dirty, with windows that didn't open, this was considered satisfactory as to keep the heat in. In fact a hovel was a more accurate description of these dwellings.
In the distance is Pen Grogwynion and the valley of the Afon Ystwyth.
