An ornamental well, built as a memorial to James Brindley, a pioneering civil engineer who built many of the canals in and around Derbyshire, which include The Chesterfield Canal and The Trent and Mersey Canal. He also devised mill machinery which was used widely in this area. The East-facing side can be seen at SK1274 : James Brindley Memorial.
