Black Country Living Museum - anchor forge
Considerable money and effort has been spent on converting this to a workable exhibit with the reheating furnace on the right raising steam in the Cornish boiler behind it to work the steam hammer on the left. The wooden crane moves the work pieces. The anchor forge uses the equipment from Isaiah Preston's forge on Woods Lane, Cradley Heath that was the last anchor forge in the Black Country when it closed in 1979. The boiler is a near identical replacement from Walsall. The hammer is a 1 ton hammer built by Charles Ross of Sheffield c1886 and thought to have been acquired second hand in c1900. I have yet to see this at work but hope to do so before mechanical or financial considerations sideline it again.

I did finally get to see it operating on both days of the weekend of 9-10 October 2021 and very good it was too. This included night-time working on the Saturday.
