St Mary, Kirkby Lonsdale
St Mary, Kirkby Lonsdale
A Grade I listed parish church (list entry 1145774). Others have submitted many detailed photos of this imposing church, one of the few in this region to feature in Simon Jenkins' book "England's Thousand Best Churches". The earliest parts of it date from the 12th century but the tower seen here is only 18th/19th century.

The obelisk in the foreground, separately listed (II, 1318956) is a memorial to five women and girls "burned into eternity" when the Rose and Crown hotel caught fire in December 1820,
