Drake's Island - Barracks
Drake's Island - Barracks
These former military barracks on the northwestern end of Drake's Island were built c.1830-35, but may have originated in the previous century; they were remodelled c.1860.
They are EH Grade II listed LinkExternal link but are unfortunately gradually decaying as they have not been used for many years. It used to be possible to land on Drake's Island and inspect the various military remains there, but unfortunately this is currently not allowed.
Drake's Island

Drake's Island is a 2.6-hectare island lying in Plymouth Sound, the stretch of water south of the city of Plymouth. The rocks which make up the island are volcanic tuff and lava, together with marine limestone of the mid-Devonian period.
Drake's Island Battery domintes the eastern end of the island.
