Clifton Suspension Bridge

One of the most famous bridges in England, the Clifton bridge connects the Clifton area of Bristol on the east bank of the Avon gorge with the other side including the road to Portishead. It was designed in 1829-31 by the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Work started in 1836, but stopped in 1840 fund ran out. It was completed after Brunel's death as a tribute to him, opening in 1864.

The bridge is now listed grade 1 (list entries 1205734 and 1129844; the latter includes the western toll house).
