Bell Telephone Exchange, Glasgow
Bell Telephone Exchange, Glasgow
Located at 30 Ingram Street G1 1EZ, this red sandstone building dates from 1936 as can be seen from the George VI cipher above its entrance in the middle. Its code is WSBEL and provides telephone and broadband services to 8,220 residential and 888 non-residential premises in Glasgow city centre east. Until the late 1960s, it used to have BELl telephone numbers, but now has 0141-552,553 xxxx numbers. Incidentally, there is a Bell Street nearby which runs from Candleriggs to Hunter Street crossing Albion Street and High Street, so the name of this TE may have originated from this street.
