Sludge is separated from the wastewater and taken to the sludge treatment area. It then has heat treatment, and allowing bacteria to digest the material, while removing as much water as possible.
Allanfearn Wastewater Treatment Works

Allanfearn treats the wastewater from Inverness, Culloden, and North Kessock, over 47,000 people. On average it receives flows of over 250 litres per second. It also has sludge brought in from other sites, including Fort William.
Allanfearn is operated by Veolia, on behalf of Scottish Water.
