NH6845 : Water tank, Raigmore Emergency Bunker
taken 5 years ago, near to Culcabock, Highland, Scotland
The bunker was built in 1941 as part of the headquarters for RAF Fighter Command 14 Group, along with two other bunkers nearby. This was the filter block, where data from radar stations was collected and processed. The bunker closed in 1946.
The bunker was later occupied by the Civil Defence Corps and the Royal Observer Corps.
In 1988 to 1991 the bunker was renovated and upgraded, to become the Highland Regional Council Emergency Centre. This included blast proof doors, and filtration systems to protect from nuclear, chemical or biological attacks.
The bunker is now owned by CSP Partnership, who are working to develop it as a museum. Link
The bunker is a Category B listed building. Link
