Passion flower (Passiflora sp)
Passion flower (Passiflora sp)
The passion flower is a vine native to South America and more than 400 species in the genus, most of which are evergreen tropical vines, have been documented. The flower comes in many colours, ranging from blue to purple to white and it is known for its beautiful complexity. Passion flowers have been used medicinally as natural sedatives and remedies for nervousness and insomnia and the flowers are favourites of butterflies. Certain Passiflora species are reported to exhibit genotoxicity and to contain cyanogenic constituents, and are also associated with hepatobiliary and pancreatic toxicity.
