The Oldbar Burn
The Oldbar Burn
The 1:25000 and 1:50000 maps shows the burn flowing under Hurlet Road here; the view is from the roadside.

A related place-name, Oldbar, is shown just to the southeast of the burn on various maps(*) made between 1600 and 1826. The first-edition OS map, surveyed in 1857, shows an Oldbarhills (probably the same place) in that area, as well as a Low Oldbar, which is nearby, but on the other side of the burn.

[(*) These are: the Blaeu map, based on surveys made c.1600; Roy's Military Survey, 1740só50s; John Ainslie's 1796 map of Renfrewshire; and John Thomson's 1826 map.]
