Level crossing on Haxey Gate Road
Level crossing on Haxey Gate Road
The line between Doncaster and Gainsborough was opened in 1867. Since then all the intervening stations have been closed but the line itself is still open and busy. Until recently North Carr Crossing was closed between 10 pm and 6 am. As can be seen, automatic barriers have now been installed. This is the view in the direction of Doncaster with the crossing keeper's house on the right. Just to the left of the level crossing was Haxey & Epworth station. This opened as Haxey on 9th July 1867 and was renamed Haxey & Epworth in May 1884. Between 1905 and 1956 it was also the junction with the Axholme Joint Railway - see Link

The station closed to passengers on 2nd February 1959 and to freight on 29th June 1965. The line though is still open.
