River Idle at West Stockwith
River Idle at West Stockwith
In the evening light this view from the flood bank looks quite Dutch. In fact the Buildings of England: Nottinghamshire says "Notts at its most Lincolnshire, that is a riverside village of brick, almost as if it were in Holland." and Batsford's book of Nottinghamshire says "West Stockwith is a must; a Trentside village which belongs to Holland rather than Nottinghamshire. When I saw it first, some 20 years ago, I had just returned from the Low Countries and I felt at once that I was still there."
