The Tudor Gothic market cross was erected in 1905. There was originally a cross on top supported by buttresses which was removed when it was found to be unsafe. The inscription on the frieze reads 'This Market Cross was presented to the town by the Rev J.W.Davies D.D. Vicar of Kirkby-Lonsdale from 1889 to 1908. 1905".
Listed, grade II, with details at: LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
Kirkby Lonsdale is a small town that developed at a crossing of the River Lune. Granted a market charter in 1227, the town at one time had 29 inns and alehouses of which several survive. The town is rich in historic buildings with over 150 listed.
