Looking up the stream to the cascade. The Japanese Garden was created for Ethel Webb from 1899 onwards by a Japanese horticultural expert, and includes plants and ornaments imported from Japan.
Newstead Abbey

Newstead Abbey was originally an Augustinian priory, founded by Henry II around 1170. A small religious community existed here until Henry VIII dissolved the monastery in 1539. Henry then granted Newstead to Sir John Byron, who converted the priory into a house. The 6th Baron Byron, the famous poet George Gordon Byron, inherited the title and estate in 1798 at the age of ten and lived here on rare occasions.
