Moor Abbey - Galbally, County Tipperary
Here in The Glen of Aherlow stand the prominent remains of Moor Abbey, aka (also known as) Galbally Friary. One of Ireland's National Monuments it was founded in the 13th century. In 1471 a new church was built on this site but was burned down in 1472. The last monks left here for Mitchelstown R8112 in 1748 and the site fell into ruins. In the early 1920s the Royal Irish Constabulary attempted to demolish the remains but failed. It stands here today as a mute reminder across the centuries. Not to be confused with Moore Abbey at Monasterevan N6310 in County Kildare. Time photo taken not available. Source: Wikipedia.
