Towers of the original castle of the Fannings family survive at the SW and SE corners of a bawn now occupied by farm buildings. The SE tower is the most complete, but only a stair turret and bartizan corbels remain of the upper part of the SW tower. The castle was granted in 1592 to Sir Henry Wallop, and to the Fannings family in 1655. The castle's appearance owes much to its rebuilding in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style.
