William Bradley
William Bradley, who was born in Market Weighton in 1787, grew to be the tallest recorded British man that ever lived, measuring 7 feet 9 inches (2.36 m) and weighing 27 stone. He made a living as a freak show at fairs around the country, later charging the curious one shilling to visit him. He was even presented to King George IV at Windsor. He died at the age of 33 in his home town where he has never been forgotten. His statue was sculpted by Malcolm MacLachlan from English oak and unveiled during the town’s ‘Giant Bradley Day' in 2007.
