Raven Hall Hotel - garden
Raven Hall (originally called Peak Hall) dates from 1774 when it was built by William Childs who owned the nearby alum works. Childs' grandson, the eccentric Revd Dr Richard Willis was responsible for the design of the gardens and building the battlements. The property eventually passed to the Peak Estate Company who converted the hall into a hotel in 1895 as part of an ultimately unsuccessful plan to develop Ravenscar as a holiday resort. It has remained as a hotel ever since, its out-of-the-way location made up for by its spectacular position on the cliff tops.
