Archimedes screw, Tumbleton Lake
A 17m Archimedes screw installed in 2014 on the face of the Tumbleton Lake dam on the Cragside Estate. Its purpose was to provide power for all lighting in Cragside, thus continuing the tradition that dates back to 1878 when William Armstrong made the house the first in the world to use hydroelectricity for lighting.
The whole estate, now owned by the National Trust, is grade I listed - see Link
