Footpath to the Snake Inn
The Peak & Northern Footpaths Society has a long and proud history in the provision and maintenance of signposts, bridges, etc. Signposts are probably the society's most enduring items, as some are over 100 years old, like this one here dated 1908.
Peak and Northern Footpaths Society

The Peak and Northern Footpaths Society evolved from The Manchester Association for the Preservation of Ancient Public Footpaths, founded in 1824, but was officially formed in 1894 as the Peak District and Northern Counties Footpaths Preservation Society. Their green-painted, numbered and dated footpath signs are a familiar sight on northern rights of way; the first (post no. 1) was erected in 1905 and still stands at Carr Meadow near Little Hayfield (SK0347989462). Their website LinkExternal link includes lists of their signs and bridges, with grid references.
