Former town hall, Ker Street, Plymouth
Former town hall, Ker Street, Plymouth
Its mighty Greek Doric portico facing down the street, the old town hall is one of only three of John Foulston's civic buildings to have survived. Dating from 1821-24, "they deserve to be cherished, for they are among the most remarkable of their date". It is unfortunate therefore that they now stand "pathetically isolated amid drab post-war reconstruction". Grade I listed.
It has been restored in recent years and is now in some sort of community use.
Presiding over affairs is Britannia (1835, by J. Panzetta).
