Cambridge: The Boathouse
Cambridge: The Boathouse
This is not one of the many University boathouses along the River Cam, but a public house on Chesterton Road.

It was originally called 'The Spring', as it was adjacent to the long defunct Spring Brewery, whose site is now occupied by the former Tivoli Cinema (to the left in this photograph). The 1:500 scale Ordnance Survey map of 1888, currently available online, shows the brewery and its outlet.

The Boathouse has undergone many makeovers in the past, but the change from just a year previously, in 2018, is most marked.
