Lancaster Canal, Stainton
Lancaster Canal, Stainton
Looking "north" from bridge 172. The section of canal to the next bridge to the "north" (173) is being restored by the Lancaster Canal Trust. A synthetic rubber liner is used to seal the canal with blocks laid on top. (Judging by the rainwater in the canal, it would appear to be fairly watertight already.) A clay dam has been built under bridge 173. A gabian wall has been built on the right, presumably to retain the steeper bank here. The clay dam under bridge 172 will be removed when work is complete.
