Charles Collinge (1792-c1842) was the son of John Collinge and his wife Eleanor. In May 1820, he became a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and in 1833 he lodged a patent for the improvement in axle-trees which he still manufactured in 1836, then living and working at Bridge Road, Lambeth. By 1837, he had taken over his late fathers extensive premises where he continued the manufacture of axle-trees and spherical hinges. After his death the business became Collinge and Co.
