Fletchers House (2) - sign, 4 Lion Street, Rye, East Sussex
The sign reads "In this ancient vicarage John Fletcher was born in 1579. Jacobean dramatist and collaborator with Beaumont, Shakespeare & Massinger". John Fletcher died of the Plague in August 1625 following a successful career as a dramatist. His father was the local minister in Rye, later becoming a Bishop in various places. The building became a tearoom in 1932 which use continues today.
