Newcastle West (Irish: an Caisleán Nua Thiar) or simply Newcastle is the largest town in County Limerick, excluding Limerick city. It is in the middle of a great bowl-shaped valley known at one time as the valley of the Wild Boar and the town’s crest features the image of a wild boar. The town is on the N21 road from Limerick to Tralee, between Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale and is also on the River Arra which flows into the River Deel.

The N21 road is a national primary road in Ireland. The route runs for 84 km from the M20 outside Limerick to Tralee in County Kerry, running through the towns of Abbeyfeale, Newcastlewest, Adare and the village of Templeglantine.
