The blue plaque was erected by Exeter Civic Society in 2019, close to St Pancras Church, seen in the background. It reads: Nicholas Hilliard c1547-1619. Portrait miniaturist at the royal courts of Elizabeth I and James I, and goldsmith. Son of Richard Hilliard c1519-1594, Exeter goldsmith. Both owned property in this parish and were patrons to the living of St Pancras. The black pyramids cover stalls of street food.
