Memorial to Henry Varley, Union Street, Brighton
Memorial to Henry Varley, Union Street, Brighton
Henry Varley (1835-1912) was an evangelical preacher who, towards the end of his life, spent three years attached to the Union Street meeting house. At this time it was used by the Glynn Vivian Miners' Mission, one of a number of Protestant congregations to use it in the years between its foundation in 1698 and its closure in 1988. (It is now a pub.)
See LinkExternal link for the history of the Union Street meeting house, and LinkExternal link for a transcription of the memorial which sets out Henry Varley's career.
