Remains of railway bridge over canal
Remains of railway bridge over canal
Near Burbage, by the Kennet and Avon Canal. This is where the Midland and Southwestern Junction Railway crossed the canal. There are two levels where the railway crossed. The lower level (furthest from the photographer) was where the railway originally ran to join the main GWR line. Later, in 1898 the railway made a line independent of the GWR and ran at a higher level alongside the old bridge abutment and up to Savernake High Level station and on to Marlborough.
