Brown Bear near Dunbar - detail
A 5m steel sculpture of a bear in tribute to conservationist John Muir, who was born in Dunbar in 1838, was unveiled there on 19 November 2019. The bear is symbolic of his travels through America's wild places, and he played a key role in the development of America's national parks, and the development of the conservation movement generally. It is currently not very accessible. Viewable from the A1, from where this photo was taken, but it is about 200m from a layby. Pedestrian access, still a work in progress, is from Spott Road [Asda car park?], and there is no signage.
I expected it to be silvery, like many of Andy Scott's other works, but of course it is a bear, so it is brown.
