Goodwin ball mill, Etruria Industrial Museum
This had appeared since my previous visit and had to be photographed. This ball mill was built by J Rohrbach at Kalzhuette, Thuringia, Germany and installed at Goodwin's Westwood Mill in Hanley in 1904. It is reputed to be the first ball mill installed in the UK. It was more recently employed in Congleton until 2000. It was then donated to the Museum and finally placed on display in 2017. The ball mill superseded open pan wet grinding although the latter continued at Etruria into the early 1970s.
