River Teme
River Teme
A steeper section of the river which is entertaining when paddling. The short drop here was once used to generate electricity for Ashford Court and its stables. (c.1900). The ruins of the generator were still visible here in the 1970s.
There was an attempt to build a mill here earlier, the lade was dug but construction got no further. No weir was built. With two substantial mills nearby this is not a surprise. Ashford Carbonell was in the hands of two large estates. The Manor had the mill and I suppose The Court wanted one too.
