Christmas market on Cathedral Square, Peterborough
The merry-go-round at this Christmas market on Cathedral Square stands in front of The Guildhall (or - more precisely - The Old Guildhall), also known as The Butter Cross. It was built by John Lovin between 1669 and 1671. The building served as the headquarters of the city council from 1874 until the present town hall nearby on Bridge Street was inaugurated in October 1933.
The Old Guildhall, which was restored in 1929, is a Grade II listed building. The Church of St. John the Baptist (commonly known as St. John's Church), which was consecrated in 1407, is just visible behind The Guildhall.
